Ray Anderson
Anderson is the founder and chairman of Interface, the world’s largest manufacturer of modular carpet for commercial and residential applications. After reading Paul Hawken’s book, The Ecology of Commerce, Anderson was inspired to turn his environmentally unfriendly company into a sustainable and profitable enterprise. Anderson presented his staff with the idea of “Mount Sustainability” – seven macro-models of interconnection between the company, its suppliers and the consumer market. Since 1995, Interface has saved over $336 million in waste-elimination activities and reduced its total manufacturing waste sent to landfills by 70 per cent. The Rix Center supports transformational leaders that are determined to contribute to the sustainability of their community.
