Neuroscientist Matt Ridley calls engaged citizenship, “self-interest for the common good.” In his book The Origins of Virtue, Ridley argues that humans have evolved with a special instinct for social exchange. It is in the self-interest of humans, to co-operate, since optimal solutions to social dilemmas are solved this way. By co-operating with education and community partners, The Rix Center seeks to find the best possible answers to society’s issues.
