Helliwell, a world-famous researcher on well-being and an Arthur J.E. Child Foundation Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and Co-director (with George Akerlof) of the CIFAR Program on “Social Interactions, Identity and Well-Being”, considers relationships with friends and family and even community groups to be more related to happiness and satisfaction than material wealth. Helliwell’s findings from 100,000 people surveyed shows that social capital is an extremely important aspect of life satisfaction. The Rix Center seeks to increase social capital by fostering community and corporate engagement.
