Selection Criteria An Engaged Corporate Citizen is an enterprise which demonstrates in policy and practice the highest standards of stewardship towards the long-term well-being of customers, employees, owners, business partners, the environment and the broader community. Demonstration of remarkable acts of corporate citizenship will be welcomed. |
The nomination process will be conducted as follows:
Step 1
All nominations need to be formally submitted to:

The following items must be sumbitted in the nomination package:
- A letter including the name and full contact details of the nominating party (both the individual and the company that they represent).
- Name of the nominee enterprise, along with full contact details of an appropriate representative who is aware of the nomination. This person will be contacted by the Rix Center to confirm nomination and the next steps.
- Full details as to why the nominee deserves to attain the award.
The judges will be looking for evidence of superior corporate citizenship within the areas of Customer Focus, Outreach, Environment and Internal. Ideas of what can be provided are listed below, but please note this list is for guidance only and is by no means exhaustive.
- Customer Focus
- Ensuring superior customer service is provided as a matter of course.
- Fostering a commitment of excellence towards customers.
- Seeking to ensure all customers are treated with respect.
- Outreach
- Helping to imporve the quality of life for others.
- Giving back to the broader Community.
- Creating an organization that the community can feel proud of.
- Partnering with others to make a better world.
- Being a good neighbour by keeping business partners and surrounding communities well informed about operations and activities that may affect them.
- Possibly able to educate a wide audience with sound practices that have been developed in any successful organization.
- Environment
- Taking responsibility for the impact business has on the world.
- Demonstrating care for the environment.
- Actively pursuing sustainable practices.
- Internal
- Looking after employees.
- Creating a fun, challenging and rewarding place to work.
- Recognizing the importance of being a good corporate citizen as an integral part of the core business.
- Encouraging active participation in the community from all levels of employees and board members.

The final deadline for all nominations to be received is January 14, 2011.
Step 2
A panel comprising representation from the Sauder School of Business at UBC, The Vancouver Board of Trade, and other senior business leaders will assess the nominations according to the criteria listed in Step 1.
Step 3
All nominations will be contacted, and finalists will be announced by February 16, 2011.
Step 4
The 2011 award for Engaged Corporate Citizenship will be presented at The Vancouver Board of Trade’s Governors’ Banquet, to be held in March/April 2011 (date still to be determined).
