Brandt Louie, Vancity, Sue Paish & Darcy Rezac recognized at Board of Trade Governors’ Banquet

Brandt C. Louie, OBC, LLD, FCA, took the stage to a standing ovation at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver during The Vancouver Board of Trade’s sold-out Governors’ Banquet and 2011 Rix Center Awards, April 5.

Louie, chairman and CEO of H.Y. Louie Co. Ltd., and chairman of London Drugs Ltd., received the Rix Award for Engaged Community Citizenship for his community involvement. Also recognized was Vancity with the Rix Award for Engaged Corporate Citizenship.

Sue Paish, QC, immediate past chair 2009-10, The Vancouver Board of Trade, and CEO of Pharmasave Drugs (National) Ltd., was inducted into The Board’s Council of Governors.

YVR named Best Airport in North America again

YVR named Best Airport in North America
Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has been named Best Airport in North America by the 2011 Skytrax World Airport Awards held in Copenhagen, Denmark. It’s the second year in a row YVR has been awarded the designation, and the third since 2007.

Since 1960, the Vancouver airport has been serving local and international travellers and today is one of the busiest airports in Canada. It has been recognized numerous times for its excellent service and governance model, including The Vancouver Board of Trade Rix Award for Engaged Corporate Citizenship in 2009.

Vancity, which has supported over 160 charitable and community organizations over the past year, will next month be awarded the prestigious Rix Award for Engaged Corporate Citizenship 2011 by The Vancouver Board of Trade‘s Rix Center for Corporate Citizenship & Engaged Leadership, founded by the late Dr. Donald Rix, CM, OBC.

Ltd., and chairman of London Drugs Ltd., renowned for his quiet community involvement “behind the scenes,” has been awarded The Center’s Rix Award for Engaged Community Citizenship 2011 which recognizes community-minded individuals.

Governors’ Banquet 2010 honours Dr. Don Rix, RBC Royal Bank and celebrates ‘The Jimmy Factor’

The late Dr. Don Rix, CM, OBC became the first Vancouver Board of Trade chairman to be inducted into the Council of Governors posthumously at the annual Governors’ Banquet and Rix Center Awards 2010 on Wednesday, April 7, 2010.

His daughter, Laurie Rix Macrae, chair of the Rix Family Foundation, received a scroll, a commemorative album of his year as Board of Trade chairman 2008-09, and a gift of gold earrings and pin engraved with the Rix Center for Corporate Citizenship & Engaged Leadership emblem. CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: Engaged Corporate Citizenship Award

Rix Center LogoNominations are being sought for the 2011 Engaged Corporate Citizenship Award.

The late Dr. Donald Rix, CM, OBC, founded the Rix Center for Corporate Citizenship and Engaged Leadership at The Vancouver Board of Trade during his term as Chairman in 2008.

Its purpose is to promote and facilitate the engagement of businesses and individuals in activities that add value to the broader community, as well as business.

Previously, the Engaged Corporate Citizenship Award has been won by the Vancouver Airport Authority (YVR) in 2009, and RBC Royal Bank in 2010.
